Community Outreach

In addition to the daily contact our officers have with residents as they patrol our community, the department hosts and participates in numerous types of outreach.

Citizens Police Academy

The Citizens Police Academy is a free course designed to increase communication, understanding, respect and collaboration between Hyattsville residents, residents of neighboring communities, and the Hyattsville City Police. It is the perfect opportunity for residents to experience Police Officer training first hand, and to gain a better understanding how law enforcement agencies operate. Classes occur periodically throughout the year and meet for 11 Thursday evenings.

Crime Prevention Training

The Department provides free crime prevention training to individuals, community groups, and businesses on topics including: neighborhood watch, identity theft, personal safety, workplace safety, senior security, child safety seats, Watch Your Car Program, and other topics by request.

Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch is a program used throughout the nation in which neighbors look out for each other. Neighborhood Watch groups typically plan and host their own initial meeting and invite the Department to send an officer who will provide information on Neighborhood Watch and local safety.

Community Conversation

The Hyattsville Police Department is partnering with our faith communities to host of series of community-building conversations with residents.  Please join us!  Information is included in the attached flyer:
