The Office of Volunteer Services wishes to gratefully acknowlege the generous contribution by DC Greenworks for 12 "H" shaped planter boxes to the City of Hyattsville! The "H" planter boxes were orignally part of an art installation project under the Mayor's Green Summer Job Corps (MGSJC) in 2009 along the H Street Corridor in NE Washington, DC. DC Greenworks designed and coordinated their construction; the brightly painted planter boxes are made of 4"X4" timbers, assembled with 6" screws, primed and painted.
The "H" planters made their way to Hyattsville thanks to Volunteers from City Year and JCCLDS. These dedicated groups delicately removed gravel, soil, plants and placed each planter onto a trailer for safe transport to the City of Hyattstville. Volunteers then placed each planter in its current location and new home.
You'll find the "H" planter boxes throughout our city in many of our public places. The "H" planter boxes illustrates an innovative use of enviromental art and the adaptive reuse of materials. In their new locations, the "H" planters will continue to draw attention and raise awareness of the value of living materials and sculptural art in outdoor spaces.
DC Greenworks is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing training,and working to restore, protect and enhance the environment. DC Greenwork has programs the encompass the area of urban agriculture, education, public leadership, stormwater mitigation and green collar job training.
