On behalf of the women and men of the City of Hyattsville Police Department, I welcome and thank you for your interest in our agency. Our Department is internationally accredited and has a long and proud history dating back to 1886. Today it is recognized as a leader in municipal policing. Our employees are committed to our core values of service, integrity and respect and with the support of City elected officials and other City service departments provide a safe, small town atmosphere in a rapidly growing urban environment.
The Department currently has 42 police officers and 14 civilian employees and serves a diverse community of approximately 17,000 residents. The City’s three square miles combines older residential communities, recently developed urban town centers along with significant commercial and retail centers. The City borders the flagship campus of the University of Maryland and is minutes from Washington D.C. The City’s two Metro Stations provide easy access to the region’s many distinctive neighborhoods and attractions.
Our officers recognize the importance of community partnerships and employ both proactive problem solving strategies and data driven enforcement tactics. The agency is a full service police department that offers a wide variety of employment opportunities, including vehicle, bike, segway and foot patrols, investigations, community services, school resources, property & evidence, parking enforcement, criminal records and communications. We also have specialized positions in traffic enforcement, K-9, HEAT (Hard Entry and Tactics), PIO and training.
The City of Hyattsville is a great place to live, work and visit. I invite you to learn more about us and the opportunities we can offer as a City and a police department. If I may be of any assistance, or if you want to learn more about us, please do not hesitate to contact me using the links on this page.
