On behalf of the women and men of the City of Hyattsville Police Department, I welcome and thank you for your interest in our agency. Our police department is internationally accredited and has a long and proud history dating back to April 7, 1886.
We have since evolved into a modern 21st Century Policing agency where each employee is committed to our core values of service, integrity and respect. With the support of our residents, elected officials, businesses and other departments, we provide a safe small-town atmosphere in a rapidly growing and vibrant urban community.
The City of Hyattsville serves a diverse population of approximately 20,000 residents and employs 46 sworn police officers and 15 non-sworn civilian employees. Together, we engage in developing both proactive problem-solving strategies and data-driven enforcement plans to reduce crime and create a safe community for residents and visitors from all walks of life to enjoy.
We offer a variety of employment opportunities which include patrol services, criminal investigations, community services, school resource officers, crime scene investigators, traffic enforcement officers, K-9 officers, a special assignment team (SAT), an emergency response team (ERT), information and technology services and 24-hour public safety communications.
