The City of Hyattsville has been endorsed as a HEAL City

Healthy eating and active living (HEAL) is not just for individuals or families. HEAL policies can greatly impact the way people live – and improve both the physical and fiscal health of a community.

Municipal leaders across the United States are now recognizing that HEAL policies should be part of short- and long-term city planning as a key component to reducing health care costs, creating safer community environments, improving quality of life and attracting economic development.

Hyattsville is committed to ensuring our community remains a great place to live, work, do business and play. As such, Hyattsville passed a resolution to join the  HEAL Cities & Towns Campaign. In doing so, our city receives free resources, advice and technical assistance from the Institute for Public Health Innovation.  This program is specifically designed to help municipal leaders proactively foster healthy environments through policies that increase access to healthy eating and active living for residents and the workforce. The campaign was created by the Institute and the Maryland and Virginia Municipal Leagues.

By encouraging active communities, improving access to healthy food and promoting a healthy municipal workplace, Hyattsville can contribute to the physical health of its citizens, while also aiming to improve overall quality of life and promote business investment in the city.
