Celebrations and Events

The City hosts recreational events and celebrations throughout the year. Below, in the order we typically host them, are short descriptions of each event. For dates and more details, click the links below and see our 2016 Events Calendar.

Community Conversations
Hosted throughout the year, these conversations build community through the diversity in our community.

Parent-Child Dance Party
We pick a theme each year, and invite parents to bring their kids for an evening of music and fun.

Route 1 Rampage
A day of collegiate and professional bicycle races. Come cheer on the riders and enjoy local food and drink. The races are organized by the University of Maryland Cycling Team.

The Great Magruder Park Egg Hunt and Pancake Breakfast
Kids dash for eggs, meet a VIB (Very Important Bunny) and have a pancake breakfast.

City Anniversary Festival
This multi-day extravaganza includes a carnival, parade, concert and fireworks.

Community Yard Sale
We waive the permit requirement for yard sales, and publish a map of all the sales our residents host. 

Citizenship Celebration
We host a swearing in ceremony for residents and neighbors becoming newly naturalized United States citizens.

Historic Hyattsville House Tour
We are a co-sponsor of this event, which is hosted by the Hyattsville Preservation Association

Summer Jams
The City's summer "block party" for all residents. We bring a band, BBQ, beer, wine, food truck, face painters, a clown, moonbounce and more. 

Bike to Work Day
The City is a co-sponsor of this event, which is hosted by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association and Arrow Bicycle.

Dogs for the Arts
Dog owners bring their best friends for a morning of paw painting, as well as costume and look-alike competitions, and more. 

International Festival
A celebration of the City's diversity with ethnic music, dance, food vendors and beer, as well as tons of kids activities. 

Shakespeare In The Park
The City is a co-sponsor of this event, which is hosted by the Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation

National Night Out Against Crime
An evening of fun and games with our local police, as well as K9 exhibitions and safety information. We finish with a "Take Back the Night" walk through a local neighborhood.

Sunset Movie Series
We show kids movies on the big screen at a park as the sun sets. Bring a blanket to sit on.

Healthy Hyattsville!
This festival celebrates exercise and health in our community with a 5K run, Cyclocross, and more. 

Our Hyattsville Grassroots Expo
This informational expo helps residents learn how to be good stewards of the environment at the homes and in our community.

Spooky Fest
Kids show off their costumes, dance to our DJs tunes, collect candy, and have a ball.

Heroes Bowl
Our Police Department takes on the local Fire Department in a flag-football game fundraiser.

Holiday Tree Lighting
Join us as we sing carols, sip hot chocolate and light the City's holiday tree. 

Breakfast/Lunch with Santa
The man in red stops by to have a meal and take photos with local kids.

Claus Applause Decoration Contest
Residents compete for the best decorated house.
